Superlit GRP pipes and fittings have been used extensively on hydro power projects. Details of recent projects can be accessed at references.
Approximately 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water, a resource that has always been central to human development.
The use of water to generate power - hydropower -
has been characterized by continuous technical development. It is currently the second most used renewable energy source in the world, just behind solid biomass.
Hydro power supplies the vast majority of renewable electricity, generating 16.6% of world supply and 92% of total renewable energy
electricity. At the European level, hydropower
now accounts for around 80% of the electricity generated from renewable sources, and 19% of total electricity production.
Electricity generated from SHP (small hydropower: production units with a capacity of 10 megawatts) contributes more than 3% of the total electricity produced in Europe. Hydro power plants
are designed to respect native water flows, to preserve natural resources, and to minimise environmental impact.
